The models as shown above were stitched on Raw Belfast linen for the sampler, Clay Belfast linen for the shamrock Sudberry House Walnut Card Box insert, and Mushroom Lugana 32 for the verse. All fabrics used are by Zweigart.
The sampler was stitched with Kreinik Soie d'Alger silks, Kreinik Gold Braid, and Caron Waterlilies. Stitch count for this model is 170 wide by 224 high. Besides cross stitch and backstitch, the sampler uses the Smyrna Cross, Four-Sided Stitch, Holbein Stitch, Irish Stitch, Diamond Eyelet, Upright Cross Stitch, and Satin Stitch.
The verse was stitched with Kreinik Soie d'Alger silks, Kreinik Gold Braid, and Waterlilies. Stitch count for this model is 185 wide by 172 high. The verse uses only the basic stitches (Cross Stitch, French Knots, and backstitch) but is challenging due to the many quarter stitches and intricate backstitching used to trace the path of the knots. The verse chosen for this design is a traditional lyric dating from the 13th century and was orginally written in Middle English.
The Shamrock models were stitched with Caron Waterlilies and Mill Hill Petite beads. The stitch count is 55 wide by 39 high. A Satin Stitch variation and cross stitches are used to form the shamrock.
When stitched on Raw Belfast linen, cream petite beads can be substituted for the gold to give a more muted, old fashioned or antique look.
